osteoclast

Definition: OSS-tee-oh-klast) A cell that actively reabsorbs old or fatigued bone so that new bone may be replaced by osteoblast cells. When osteoclast cells reabsorb bone faster than the osteoblast cells are building it, then osteoporosis (bone loss) occurs.
