Phase I trial
Definition:
The first step in a clinical trial to test the safety, dosage levels, and response to a new treatment. A Phase I trial usually enrolls only a small number of patients, sometimes as few as a dozen.More information at Food and Drug Administration, protocol, double-blinded.
